Michael Morse ’99 Throws Opening Strike for Lester’s No-Hitter

Killington Mountain School graduate and 2008 US Freestyle National Champion, Michael Morse threw out the opening pitch, a strike, of the Royals v. Red Sox no-hitter on Monday night at Fenway Park .

Morse, originally from Duxbury, MA considers Killington his hometown mountain. He graduated from the Killington Mountain School in 1999 and went straight to the US Ski Team. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Morse was thrilled to have the opportunity to take the fabled Fenway mound. “It was a thrill to be out there in front of the Fenway faithful as well as a number of friends and family,” said Morse. Asked if he was nervous, “Well, the only thing I was nervous about was dropping my knuckle curve a little low and outside…..  More seriously, it’s not everyday that I get to throw a pitch in front of 35,000 people, so there was some hesitation there, although this was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I was extremely excited about.”

Morse’s recent gold medals in moguls and duals was won with his signature style of tight turns, considered some of the best in the world,  and one of the faster times of the day. Mike’s perfectly executed airs, a back flip and D-spin helped him secure the day. His win came in the face of a year long battle he has been waging with injury. Morse said, "It hasn't really sunk in yet, but it's pretty amazing [to win the title]. I had a tough year and it feels good to lay down a run. I need to give a lot of the credit to everyone back at KMS who has supported me from the beginning.”
