MIKE MORSE '99 WINS GOLD AT US NATIONALS
Killington Mountain School graduate Mike Morse laid down two super fast and technical runs to take home the gold medal at US Freestyle Nationals held at Deer Valley Ski Resort in Park City, Utah.
Morse, originally from Duxbury, MA considers Killington his hometown mountain. He graduated from KMS in 1999 and went straight to the US Ski Team. During his tenure at KMS Mike toured the NorAm circuit. KMS freestyle coach Matt Gnoza remembers him as a tenacious athlete. Gnoza says, “More than anything Michael was a hard working athlete with the determination to do what it took to get to the next level.”
Morse’s winning run of tight turns and one of the faster times of the day was accentuated by a perfectly executed back flip and D-spin. His win this weekend came in the face of a year long battle he has been waging with injury. Morse said, "It hasn't really sunk in yet, but it's pretty amazing [to win the title]. I had a tough year and it feels good to lay down a run. I need to give a lot of the credit to everyone back at KMS who has supported me from the beginning.”
